The new Schaefer 400 is ‘Love at First Sight’ as she redefines the express cruiser concept. Designed by the talented hands of Marcio Schaefer, this novel variation offers pleasing eye and driving sensations. The design of this boat is harmonious with a perfectly organised interior and a selection of high-quality finishes.
The sleek lines of the Schaefer 400, complimented with her huge retractable hardtop and modern hull design, emphasize her pronounced sporty character. With her central driving console and the technologically advanced hull manufacturing process, she offers excellent handling and safety when travelling at 35 knots plus. The cockpit space is generous and organised in a way that can accommodate 12 – 14 people.

Entertaining on the 2021 Schaefer 400

The layout of the lower deck gives you a feeling of space unrivaled on a boat this size. Facing the spacious salon, a fully fitted galley complements the gourmet centre on the aft deck. The Schaefer stands out for its habitableness with two staterooms each with ensuite shower / toilet. Elegant finishes are available for the new models taking materials and designs from the larger Schaefer custom yachts up to 83’.
In her overall design as well as many details, the Schaefer 400 demonstrates a perfect balance between a strong sporty temperament and practical features. This makes life on board easy and luxurious for both day-boating and overnighting aboard.
Schaefer Yachts in Brazil has one of the most advanced manufacturing processes in the Americas. Using a state of the art 5 axis CNC machine for accuracy, the hulls are vacuum infused fiberglass with PVC foam cored hull, deck and superstructure. Schaefer’s vertically integrated assembly, with in house woodworking, tooling and textile production, makes them self sufficient and able maintain quality and timely deliveries.

Bow to Stern

The foredeck is surrounded by a 28” rail with a 73” long by 84” wide sun pad. There are three round hatches for light and ventilation below decks.  The bow has a clean look thanks to a hatch concealing the windlass installation which has a chain stopper, washdown, access to the chain locker with rugged cleats to secure the chain, complete with lighting. There are foot control switches adjacent and two 10” bow cleats.

Helm Area

The 12” raised helm station is positioned just to starboard of the centerline with step up to a teak deck with a teak-finished, angled footrest. The helm console is well laid out with a compass on top that lines up with the steering wheel. Above the wheel can be a 12” multifunction display, flanked by tachometers, oil pressure gauges, temperature gauges, voltmeters, and trim gauges, and other engine monitors. The optional Volvo Glass Cockpit can be ordered with one or two displays. Electrical switches are on the port side of the leather dash with stereo control. Starboard of the wheel are well positioned trim-tab controls, engine ignition, electrical switches, and the VHF. Positioned to starboard of the helm is the Volvo Penta sterndrive joystick and the electronic engine throttle and shift binnacle. The helm is designed to be used in the seated position when the sunroof is closed, but with the sunroof open, the tilt wheel, binnacle position, and flip-up bolster enable the helmsman to drive with their head out the top.

The dual command seating and divan opposite, accommodate companions. The hardtop over this section has a huge sunroof that opens wide to the sky and provides fresh air. The sunroof on the Schaefer 400 opens and closes quickly, but an “electric eye” safety stop engages should a hand or head stick out.
LED lights along the overhead edges provide illumination in the cockpit. A built-in insulated cooler is standard and deep enough to stow plenty of cold drinks. Order with a chiller plate installed or replace with a front-opening refrigerator. It is not uncommon to request a customized owner logo on the console and acrylic companionway door as well as throughout the boat.

Salon

A sliding acrylic door opens to the lower deck. There’s a four-step companionway down and the space has 6.5’ of headroom. The galley is to port with a solid-surface counter that is lipped to contain spills, with a covered trash receptacle. There’s a stainless round sink, a two-burner cooktop, an opening port and microwave built into the lacquer-finish cabinetry above. Additional stowage is in drawers and lockers and a refrigerator convenient to the food-prep area, is in the aft bulkhead.
Opposite the galley to starboard and forward there’s an L-shaped settee beneath a single round hatch in the overhead that acts as a skylight and opens for ventilation. Over the settee are lacquered-wood lockers and a pair of opening ports allowing ventilation and natural light. Complimented with a wood table and a console in the aft bulkhead has a 32” flatscreen TV, a Blu-Ray player, stereo control built in with stowage beneath. In the salon, fabric wall coverings are complemented by marine-grade wood with a fine lacquer finish.

Staterooms

The master stateroom is located forward and features an island berth that measures 75” long and 60” wide, with 37” of headroom over the berth with steps on both sides for easy access. There are opening ports and stowage in lacquer-finished overhead lockers. The master head is outfitted with a stylish bowl sink placed atop the vanity, beneath an opening port for additional ventilation. There’s a round opening hatch in the overhead and a medicine cabinet with a mirror above the sink. The shower has an acrylic door and a euro-style wand.
The guest stateroom is beam width and located midship with its own ensuite bath. A pair of berths are situated on each side, however a filler cushion can turn this into one wide berth, while the large hull-side windows at each end allow natural light. A lacquered door leads to the guest head.

Engine Room

The engine room is accessible through a large hatch in the aft deck that raises on electric rams and opens wide to access service points on the engines and generator. Engine-oil dipsticks, filters, and strainers are readily accessible. The outboard version of this boat would provide a large storage area here.
The exciting performance of the stern drives matches the sleek profile of the Schafer 400. The boat easily handles wakes and has excellent penetration through the wave and is very responsive to the wheel, thanks to the Volvo Penta EVC Duo Prop sterndrives. She will get up on plane in less than 6 seconds and up to cruise speed in less than 15 seconds.

Cockpit

A large rounded seating area is the centerpiece of the aft deck has room for plenty of guests. A folding teak table, manufactured by Schaefer in-house, is on a fixed pedestal with a curved settee for more guests. The aft gourmet centre is a main feature of this boat and great for entertaining. The cover raises to reveal an electric grill and sink with storage cabinets underneath, making this area aesthetically appealing, functional and fun.
The optional hydraulic swim platform expands the utility of the entire boat by not requiring open space on the aft deck for bathers and sun worshipers. A folding Bimini is affixed to the aft end of the hardtop, but it blends in with the profile.
Base Price is $429,000 USD with twin 380-hp Volvo Penta DuoProp sterndrives with these standard features.
