Back in 1974, Hurricane Boats debuted a new concept in recreational boat design. The basic idea was to widen out the bow area of a normal bowrider to create more useable deck space, while still maintaining performance. Over 40 years later, Hurricane now builds 36 different deck boat models, spread across 4 lines: SunDeck, SunDeck Sport, FunDeck and Center Console.

The new 2015 SunDeck Sport SS 203 OB is the third-largest model in the SunDeck Sport lineup. Coming in at 20’9”, this model rides atop Hurricane’s Category 5 hull. Designed to increase stability and improve the performance on plane, the modified V-hull provides a shallow draft and a small wake, perfect for waterskiing.
The standard boat is well-equipped with bimini and a port-side entertainment center. I like the integrated Bluetooth that comes with the Sony stereo. You can store your phone somewhere dry, while still streaming your favorite tunes to the 4-speaker sound system.
The helm is equipped with a full array of gauges, a detachable windscreen, and a single 12V outlet.
The 203 can be equipped with your choice of outboards up to 200 horsepower. Hydraulic steering is also available, and it is required if you’re mounting more than 150 horsepower on the transom.
There is a wide array of options to upgrade the sound system, including satellite radio, colour screen and transom remote. If you’re a watersports fanatic, you’ll want to check the box for the wakeboard tower. I would make sure to get the optional deluxe fishing seat, the live well and the trolling motor harness. The combination fishfinder/GPS unit would also be on my list.
Available in nine exterior colours, the SS 203 OB will be an ideal fit for many Canadian boaters.
