A crossover dream.

Formula is one of the few family run boat manufacturers left in the USA, building both quality sport and cruising boats. The company started in 1956, in Miami, Florida. During the early years, Formula (Thunderbird) Boats went through several ownerships, but for the past 47 years – starting in 1975 to be exact, the boats have been built under the ownership of the famous Porter Family, embodying a rich heritage over the years. Several of the family members have been with the company since the early days. Located in Decatur Indiana since 1975, despite the various name changes, the Formula line has continued to endure through both the good times and the bad, and today they manufacture several different models of cruising boats.

Formula’s most popular line of boats is their line of Super Sport Crossover models that includes the availability of power by inboards, inboard/outboards, or just plain outboards, as their 380 SSC hull and transom was recently revamped and strengthened in order to hold Mercury’s new 600 hp outboards (weighing in at 1,260 lbs each!). Mercury 502 (430 hp big block 8.2-ltr V8’s) are the 380 SSC’s standard power, but who wants standard power on a boat like this today? The 380 is now available with up to twin 600 or triple 450r hp Mercury outboards for a total of a whopping 1,350hp in outboard power.

The SSC line-up includes the 38, 40, 43, and 50 footers, and represents their most popular line in their stable of boats, with the 38 – their most popular model. The 38 is essentially a huge bow rider with the amenities of a large, full cabin boat. Starting at the bow, there is comfortable forward/bow lounge seating for up to seven adults – yes 7, this is a big 38-foot bow rider folks. The helm area has a large wrap around windshield under an equally large hard top with integral sunroof over the helm area that is a nice touch on a 38 ft boat. The center panel slides open providing plenty of fresh air in the helm area. An optional SureShade can be electrically extended to cover the cockpit area on all of the SSC models.

Below deck you will find comfortable sleeping for 4 adults, 6 ft 5” of head room, a complete stand up head with shower and Vacu-flush head, and a kitchen that includes a microwave and sink. A dining table will seat 6 and an optional 18.000 BTU air conditioning system is available for overnight trips in warmer weather. On the outside deck the cockpit has an available stainless-steel refrigerator, a plumbed sink, and an optional 120v electric grill is available for cooking whatever you desire. There is blue/white LED lighting throughout the cockpit area, and a build in/recessed expanding boarding ladder on the stern for easy re-entry into the boat.

While the MSRP on the boat is $1,024,340.00, that is with the basic 8.2L Mercruiser Mag 340hp I/O power, but you can easily add another $300,000 – 400,000 in options if you opt for more power (doesn’t everyone want more power?), an optional paint scheme ($11,000 – 24,000), twin GPS’s ($27,000), a FLIR night vision system ($27,000), Satellite TV ($18,000), Seakeeper® 3 Gyro Stabilizer ($78,000), a cockpit refrigerator ($23,000), and a generator to run the refrigerator ($24,000), and the list of little $2,000 – 4,000 things goes on and on to make your time on the water even more enjoyable.
