Starcraft’s 166 is easy and reliable.
By: Captain Christopher Kourtakis
Not every tiller boat is made the same. Yes, you look at it and it appears to look like the others, but when you start to look under the hatches you realize that the Starcraft 166 Tiller is a little different from the rest of the boats. Equipped with up to an optional Mercury 60 HP outboard, this baby can get up and go. But that is not the only thing that separates this boat from the others.
The forward casting platform has a little bit of everything to offer. In the centre of the platform is the large extended lockable rod locker that lifts easily with gas assisted shocks. The rod locker is laid out nicely to accommodate eight large rods and reels. On either side of the extended rod locker are lockable storage bins nicely integrated into the floor and trimmed out in carpet lining. Just forward of the in-floor storage is a live well. There are hook ups for the optional trolling motor on the bow of the boat. Starcraft thought of everything on this boat and that includes a pocket net near the trolling motor so that you can store your foot pedal while underway.
Adorning either side of the cockpit area are storage lockers for rods and safety equipment. To the port aft mounted on the side gunnel are all your switches for lights, bilge pumps and live well pumps. This dash area is well designed and provides easy access to all of your ship’s systems.
The top mounted track system is designed to allow you to integrate everything from cup holders to rod holders. The two easy to move swivel casting chairs provide comfort while under way or can easily be installed on the forward or aft casting platforms. There is also additional in-floor storage for your larger duffel bags or life jackets.
The rear casting platform on the 166 provides storage for the removable gas tank. The transom is low so that you can access the water easily when netting your large mouth bass or blue gill. The platform is also a great place to mount your favourite electronics such as fish finders or GPS.
When ordering your 166 Stealth, you are going to want to include the power package that offers the Hummingbird PiranhaMax4 and the 45 PD Trolling Motor. The other package that is a must have is the all-weather package that includes a mooring cover, snap in carpet and a bimini top.
The quality and craftmanship that goes into building a Starcraft boat is second to none. The Stealth 166 Tiller is no exception. Attention to detail can be seen throughout the boat from the welds on the hull to the snap in carpet. The rigging is clean, and all the wiring is labeled and easy to access as needed. This is the perfect early morning towable fishing boat that is effortless to trailer, launch and store when not in use. Need a great starter boat or looking to add to your fleet? The 166 is the perfect addition to any fisherman’s family.
