Boat Test #1427

The Glastron GS 259 will take you places.

The GS series is the largest of the boats that Glastron has to offer.  With a full cabin down below, this is a boat that can take you out for a day, an afternoon, an overnight or even an extended trip.
Driven by a sterndrive engine, there are a few options available with horsepower ranges going from 240 up to 300 provided by Mercruiser of Volvo-Penta powerplants. The engine compartment is quite spacious and easily accessible, a nice feature that helps keep maintenance under control. No need to pull up half the boat to access the engine. That’s a big deal in a boat of this size.
The layout on deck is typical for a powerboat of this size. The cockpit is midships, stretching the full width of the boat, with the helm on the starboard side. Standard features at the helm station consist of what we expect; including all the instrumentation and a large seat for the captain. The chart plotter and depth sounder are considered options, though they would be highly recommended for any trips venturing outside of your normal waters. To port of the helm chair there is a lounger that faces to starboard.

The aft end of the cockpit has an ‘L’ shaped sofa to starboard, stretching across the width of the vessel and up the starboard side to the back of the helm chair. This wraps around the removable table, and is a nice place to entertain whether underway or at the dock. There is an opening aft on the port side, to access the swim platform where you’ll find an angled deep-reach re-boarding ladder with wide step pads.
There is a small galley/refreshment centre on the port side of the cockpit, at the aft end. With a sink and an optional refrigerator, it allows for prep of drinks and snacks without having to go to the full galley that is down below in the cabin.
Down below, the Glastron GS 259 is fully equipped for a couple or small family to spend some nights away. There is a more substantial galley, though many of the features come as options. A microwave, refrigerator and electric range are all available. Opposite the galley, there is a fully enclosed head and shower. The layout below is large and spacious. There are a number of portholes and skylights to provide light and ventilation. There is a table that can mount in the middle of the cabin if you would rather eat or entertain down below.  As for sleeping arrangements, there is a large berth aft of the galley, and a queen size island v-berth at the forward end of the cabin.
Glastron has been in the boat-building business for over 60 years. During that time they have learned all about good design and good construction. You can be sure that both have gone into the GS259. The hull is Galston’s famous SSV hull for exciting performance both out of the hole and running through the chop.  The hull sides and deck are balsa cored for strength and lightweight for performance.  The whole boat comes in at just over 6,000 lbs. Glastron covers it all with a limited lifetime warranty, providing peace of mind and confidence in the product that you are buying.
The GS259 is a great boat that really can do a bit of everything.  Tow sports, anchoring at a great swimming spot, heading across the lake for dinner, or even exploring down river, anything is possible. There is so much potential with a boat like this, it is really up to you to decide.  One thing you can be sure, is that the GS259 will perform well regardless of what is asked of it.
