Boat Test #1420

The Carver C34 Command Bridge provides the feel and amenities that you would expect on a 40′ Yacht.

Sometimes a name says it all.  The Carver C34 Command Bridge does just that.  This mid-size yacht not only commands the attention of those around it, but it commands the water with her performance and versatility.  When you step aboard the C34 the first thing you think is that this is not a 34’ foot yacht. She has the feel, layout and amenities that you would expect on a 40+ foot yacht.
The mystique of the C34 is immediately felt as you step aboard using the integrated swim platform.  Two steps up on the starboard side and you are immediately engulfed in the spacious cockpit area with an L-shaped seating arrangement adorning the stern.  On either side and just in front of the lounger are two easy to use molded stairs for easy access to the bow of the boat.  The fiberglass stairs to access the bridge are on the starboard side of the cabin entry door.
Once on the bridge, you’ll notice the inviting seating arrangement and massive sundeck to the stern.  The sun deck offers plush cushions and is large enough for 2-3 adults to relax in the sun.  Just in front of the sunlounger to the port side is a spacious u-shaped seating arrangement.  Completing the bridge is a compact and very functional helm to starboard.

One unique and very functional feature on the C34 that you would expect to find on larger yachts is the extra wide access door to the cabin.  Carver has gone away from the traditional sliding glass door and implements a stylish double wide French door that allows for a continuous feel from outside the cabin to in.
Once in the cabin, the main salon area invites you to enjoy the plush u-shaped lounger on the port side or the spacious galley on the starboard side.  The galley is larger than you would expect to find on a 34 footer. It also has all the conveniences that you would expect to have on the water or at home.  There is also room just in front of the galley on the starboard side for the optional second helm location.  The table can be lowered in the lounger to create an additional berth.  The 360-degree array of windows allows natural light in while giving you the feel of openness.
There is an amazing amount of room in the master V-berth, just an additional few steps forward and down. The master is functional and cozy.  It has access to the berth from either side and a large hull window runs almost the entire length of the stateroom.  The guest stateroom on the starboard side has two twin berths and plenty of head room so you are not crawling in and out of the space.  The head is large, functional and includes a separate shower.
With a true 13’ beam that is not normally found on this size cruiser, she provides a stable ride but does not hinder performance.  With gas engines she tops out around 30.0 mph and cruises around 24 mph. Diesel D4 Volvos or Yanmar engines are options, which is another unique feature for a 34 footer.
The C34 Command Bridge is a well thought out three level cruiser that has maximized every inch of space.  The C34 merges durability, functionality, convenience and performance into one complete family oriented and versatile entry level yacht. Carver wanted to design a boat for cruising and relaxing when on the water.   Not only does the C34 meet complete their goals, it exceeds them.
