The
Season of Opportunity (22-4)

Now
that the warm rays of the summer sun are starting to
fade into memory, it’s time to turn your thoughts
to the future… your family is growing up, their
skills at water sports are developing at a rapid pace,
and the boat that was a perfect fit for the family just
a few summers ago now seems to have faded from its original
glory.
Throughout cottage country, the end of summer is having
a similar effect on everyone who loves boating. And
this is the time of year when marinas from coast to
coast are selling the last of their current inventory
before the snow flies. For the astute boater, this is
the season of opportunity – it’s part of
a three-year cycle that dictates when it is time to
move up to something larger and faster with current
technology.
So don’t gaze with regret at the calendar showing
the last few days of the summer of 2007, think of this
wonderful time of year as the beginning of the 2008
boating season – act soon and you will have the
opportunity to enjoy a new boat for a few weeks before
the cool weather sets in and the family will have something
to look forward to in the springtime.
For those who remain active on the water well into the
fall, this is the time to make sure that your boat and
engine are in peak operating condition. Take a close
look at the wear and tear that may have occurred during
the summer and do the repairs while the weather is warm
enough to work in comfort.
If you enjoy boating during the cooler months, be sure
to stow extra provisions and safety supplies on board
– if you break down, there won’t be as many
boaters on the water to lend a hand. Be prepared for
the cool evening temperatures, and the shorter length
of the day, and always let someone know where you are
heading, and when you expect to return.
Safe boating! |
