Supra Sunsport 22V
By Steve Fennell

A serious towboat that delivers excitement in all the right places.

Supra Sunsport 22VFrom the company that has been the official towboat for the Gravity Games, the America¡¯s Cup, and World Waterski Championships comes the 22V Sunsport for the 2007 model year. While it¡¯s quite apparent Supra is no stranger to the wakeboarding scene, they are making even more waves this year with several innovative designs.

One of the Sunsport¡¯s key features (that¡¯s also found on every entry this year) is its unique and user-friendly RideSystem, which includes what the company calls a SmartPlate, positioned just below the transom and works in conjunction with the standard PerfectPass speed control system to provide optimum hole shots and the ability to adjust the attitude and shape of the wakes to the boarder¡¯s preference. Additionally, the PerfectPass system can electronically store a rider¡¯s preferred setting and hold speeds within .2 mph. It even works in conjunction with Supra¡¯s tried-and-true Gravity III Ballast system, providing users with fat, solid wakes and allows them to conveniently control the size and balancing. Add the standard ETX CAT 5.7L V8 340 hp engine (available with an optional catalytic converter) or choose the available Indmar 8.1L 450 hp V8 with electronic throttle, and users are set for a season of excitement.

Riders and drivers will also be happy to learn the 22V has been redesigned this year to be 10 inches longer and three inches wider, providing more than enough space for an expansive lounge with two rear-facing seating positions, a huge aft sunpad, and an all-new helm station, featuring a new wrap-around design. Complete with a vinyl-wrapped dash, this addition has full instrumentation, a custom, swivel, adjustable helm chair with a Rise-R driver elevation system, a TeleFlex steering column and an LCD waterproof stereo remote.

But functionality isn¡¯t limited to these new designs. Located to starboard from the helm is a spacious walk-through to the bow where there¡¯s additional seating space (with storage below the cushions), two speakers, and a pair of stainless steel grab rails for added security when the weather picks up. More storage is found in the cockpit, in the in-floor locker, rear compartment, and in what Supra calls the V-Drive Rider¡¯s Cubby Center Sundeck Storage. A built-in cooler is also included.

The innovation continues with a series of thoughtful steps located immediately to starboard of the lounge, offering quick, easy access to the sundeck and swim platform. Some other standards include a fiberglass platform with non-skid, docking lights, and Syntec deep-pile fast-dry trackless carpeting.

Be sure to check out a Supra at your local dealer this year. They are fast, fun and offer the functionality the whole family requires for excitement in the world of wakeboarding and watersports.
