Moomba Mobius XLV
By Steve Fennell

Performance and wakes await those riding with the Mobius XLV.

Moomba Mobius XLVKey characteristics are easy to spot in any serious towboat and there are many on Moomba¡¯s Mobius XLV. Like its sportier and tricked-out Gravity Games edition, this entry is ready to run and comes complete with a series of appointments and key features, yet it still provides a light price tag that won¡¯t break the bank.

The key element of a towboat is, of course, its performance and wake characteristics. Powered with a base Indmar Assault 5.7L 325 hp MPI power plant (mated to a CNC prop), there¡¯s no need to worry the lack of acceleration or performance. Add the Rad-A-Cage wake tower and fill the available Gravity III ballast system to the brim, and users will be learning new ways to fly on the rope.

On the opposite end of the line, inside the cockpit, passengers will be enjoying the comfort on the expansive lounge, which is designed with two-rear-facing seating positions, and in the cushioned playpen in the bow, which also offers another vantage point to observe the action. Storage is found below several select seat cushions with additional space below the port and starboard cushions on the large, aft sunpad. In all, the XLV can accommodate up to 16 people.

Drivers will also enjoy the ride thanks to the new helm seat featuring a bolster as well as the fully functional dash that comes complete with a Cipa full-size tournament mirror, dual tournament speedos, full instrumentation, Momo wheel, and Teleflex steering column. Just forward is a large safety glass walk-thru windshield.

Like many towboats, the XLV has a long list of sound systems available and if you take your music as seriously as they do, consider the available AM/FM/CD MP3 (Sirius-ready) stereo, transom remote and 10-disc CD changer. Several packages are also available including a four-channel amp, tower speakers with a two-channel amp, subwoofer with a two-channel amp or the tower speakers with a sub and four-channel-amp.

Rounding out the XLV are the small, yet thoughtful appointments to provide that added touch. Built-in stainless steel beverage holders are found wherever you need to place your drink, additional storage space is found in the in-floor locker, while a lockable glove box (with a gas-shock) can stow those extra-valuable items, such as sunglasses or keys. All upholstery is also G&T laminated vinyl with a stain-resistant top coat.

If you¡¯re looking for another serious contender, perhaps check out Moomba¡¯s XLV Gravity Games Edition, the same boat that has pulled world-class athletes in the popular Gravity Games tournament for years. A fast-fill Gravity III ballast system, EZ Cruise control and an Indmar 5.7 L 325 hp V8 MPI engine are just a few of its highlights.
