Doral Monticello
By Steve Fennell

A fully-featured, easy to handle cruiser.

Doral MonticelloIn recent seasons, Doral has been garnering plenty of attention among consumers with a series of launches such as its elegant flagship, Alegria, the Elite series of sport boats, not too mention the recently introduced Mediterra.

While these models stand true to the company's motto of "The Art of Luxury," Doral also showcases an array of stylish cruisers that not only reflect this adage, but strongly appeal to the cruiser class with functional layouts, unique features and first-rate comfort. One of these models is the Monticello.

The Monticello has a beamy eight-foot, six-inch width with a length of 28 feet, three inches. In fact, this length is the LOA, which means users are treated to a functional and spacious aft swim platform that not only provides easy boarding, but unlimited convenience when swimming or just lounging at an anchorage. This built-in platform highlights many features such as a four-step stainless steel swim ladder, stainless steel grab rail, transom shower and wash down, plus ample storage for fenders, lines and an array of other gear.

This cockpit greets boaters with more convenience such as the deluxe Berber exterior carpeting with non-skid backing, and expansive seating layout. Owners and guests will find comfort on the ergonomic passenger seat with built-in arm rests to port, large L-shaped lounge aft, while two more (including the driver) can sit comfortably at the helm thanks to the double pilot seat.

The helm adorns many standards not commonly found on a cruiser this size. For instance, there's full instrumentation along with a Danforth compass, power steering system, hydraulic trim tabs, and a Raymarine VHF radio. Another highlight, immediately forward of the portside passenger seat, is designated space to lay charts. To starboard is the entranceway down to the cabin.

As with many Dorals, the Monticello uses every inch of space to please consumers. Cook up a storm in the galley with the electric stove and stainless steel sink with pressurized water, or heat up a quick snack with the standard microwave. More comfort is in the aft cabin featuring a double bed, as well as storage space and ample ventilation thanks to the featured porthole with screen.

Some other appointments and designs down here include an AM/FM/CD stereo with two speakers, textured interior carpeting with non-skid backing, swivel light with a Murano glass lampshade and full height cedar aromatic cabinet.

When it comes to powering the Monticello, the options are just as impressive. Users have choices ranging from 220 to 320 horses. But no matter which you choose, with its comfort and practicality, the Monticello can stand up to the test no matter where your journey takes you.
