With
the promise of a beautiful summer ahead, it’s
time to gather the family for another spectacular season
on the water.
Power Boating Canada staff members are among the first
in their communities to prepare their boats for the
season, checking out all of the regular maintenance
items, and making sure that the required safety provisions
are ship-shape and stowed for easy access.
Boating is without a doubt one of the finest warm weather
activities that a family can enjoy… but the inherent
dangers of waterfront activities require that everyone
is aware of the safe and proper way to navigate the
waters. Power Boating Canada experts recommend that
all boaters participate in a safe boating training program,
and keep up to date on the regional guidelines for pleasure
boat operation. Be sure that you have appropriate PFD’s
for everyone on board.
As the summer of 2006 unfolds, many readers are expressing
concern about the prospect of rising gasoline prices.
Friends, take a word of advice from a long-term boating
enthusiast: for the average family, the difference between
the cost of fuel for your boat in 2005, and the projected
cost of running the boat in 2006 may be be offset by
having your local marine service centre tune-up your
engine, and throttle back a touch to run at the most
efficient rpm.
Boating enthusiasts are always interested in the latest
developments in the high performance end of the industry,
and this summer Power Boating Canada and our sister
publication Poker Runs America will present Poker Runs
in locations throughout North America. These events
showcase some of the most exciting offshore performance
boats in the world, and every run offers free access
for spectators at a variety of points along the route.
Many of the host venues offer waterfront festivals and
special events in conjunction with the Poker Runs. Whether
you drop by to view the boats on display in the harbour,
or bring your boat to join the spectator fleet that
lines the Poker Run route, you will enjoy an exhilarating
outing for the whole family. For more information please
