This
issue marks our 20th annual boat test issue and I can’t
think of a year when the outlook for recreational boating
enthusiasts in Canada has been brighter.
Thanks to a wide range of advances in manufacturing
processes, we have seen substantial enhancements in
all spectrums of the boating industry. Computer-assisted
designs and new materials enable boat builders to create
the best handling, most enjoyable pleasure craft we’ve
seen in quite some time.
Engine manufacturers too have created a wide range of
quieter, cleaner and more fuel efficient power plants,
perfectly matched to the lighter, better built hulls
now available from boat manufacturers.
In addition, the rise in value of the Canadian dollar
has made U.S. imports and components used in Canadian
boats more affordable than they have been in more than
15 years, the realistic rates for boat loans promises
to make this year the best opportunity to buy a 2006
model.
Our editors and expert boat testers have been busy since
mid-summer taking the latest and greatest models for
2006 through their paces and the enthusiasm coursing
through the office is at a fever pitch. When the market
is this attractive for Canadian consumers, we know there’ll
be a record number of happy boaters on the waterways
as soon as the ice thaws.
This 2006 Test Issue includes a compendium of new models
across the entire range of boating categories. Of course,
there are many more models to choose from...whether
you dream of cruising in a luxury motoryacht, carving
the perfect turn behind a hot wakeboard boat, or catching
a trophy fish from your new multi-species, there’s
a new model designed specifically for you and your family.
As you tour the boat shows, please take a few minutes
to chat with the marina operators and the representatives
from boat and engine manufacturers - their personal
attention to your requirements completes the process
of selecting the ideal boat for your lifestyle. While
you are at the show, don’t forget to drop by our
booth to say hello. Each year, new magazines come and
go, but Power Boating Canada has been here for more
than 20 years, and we have enjoyed the privilege of
writing the magazine just for you. (Page
