CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF
POWER BOATING CANADA
(20-1)
by William E. Taylor
William E. TaylorWinter has always been an exciting time around our office, as boat shows open their doors across Canada and the different boat, engine and accessory manufacturers introduce their newest wares for the coming year. But this winter is particularly thrilling as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Power Boating Canada magazine.

With this issue Volume 20, Number 1 we enter our third decade of publishing Canada's national magazine for power boaters. Over the past 20 years we have had the honour of publishing more than 120 issues, each filled with the latest news, insightful columns, features on great boating destinations and critically detailed boat tests more than 800 of them so far. I invite you to join us as we reflect across the past 20 years in this special collector's issue.

It's certainly been an eventful ride! I can still clearly recall the early years when all of us traveled across Canada to attend winter boat shows with the new magazine. We sometimes had to drive thousands of kilometers through the worst winter weather to get our books to shows in Edmonton, Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. I remember our editors driving in tandem through Rogers Pass in a blinding snowstorm. I remember shipping magazines to a show in Vancouver on a small private plane when we got stuck in Winnipeg. The books always arrived on time, thanks to the dedication of everyone involved.

Things have certainly changed since we held that first magazine in our hands on a snowy January morning, hot off the press. It's fun to look back at the way things were (and we're not just talking about that big 80s hair). We've seen everything from Miami Vice boats to the invention of personal watercraft, from the birth of poker runs to the development of high-tech, low-emission engines. Along the way, boats have become safer and more comfortable, engines have become more powerful and more reliable, and facilities for power boaters across Canada have grown by leaps and bounds.

And through all these changes, Power Boating Canada magazine has evolved too. Since it first exploded on the scene as Power Boating Ontario, it has expanded exponentially to become Canada's national voice for power enthusiasts.

What has never changed, however, is our commitment to bring you the best boating magazine anywhere. From an all-star lineup of the top boating writers to a test team that reads like a who's-who of Canadian boating, we've assembled a squad of experts unlike any other. And as we enter the next chapter in our magazine's history, we're bringing you more boat tests, more amazing destinations, more fantastic boating events and more practical advice than you will find anywhere else all with our uniquely Canadian perspective.

I hope you enjoy our 20th anniversary collector's issue. We're attending a number of boat shows across Canada this winter, so please stop by and join us as we celebrate the past and embrace the future of power boating in Canada.
