Sea-Doo 180 Challenger      by Steve Fennell
A real eye-grabber with style, form and functionality.

Sea-Doo 180 ChallengerA model year never passes by without Sea-Doo making headlines. This year the company will attract a lot of attention with its all-new 180 Challenger, a 17-footer designed with space, practically and several highlights for family boating.

Sea-Doo claims the admiration for this model will start right at the dock, and they are probably right. This is a sleek looking runabout with a lot of sharp features. There’s enough room to seat up to eight with the large aft bench, two forward seats and ample seating in the bow. A massive bow filler cushion is also available to create a large sunpad up here.

Another impressive feature is the amount of cockpit space - you don’t have to worry about tripping over anyone’s feet when moving from bow to stern. You also don’t have too worry about tripping over essential boat gear either. Ample storage space is found in the large in-floor locker and compartment in the bow. There’s also a built-in cooler.

Non-slip grab handles and drink holders are found throughout while entertainment is provided by the AM/FM/CD stereo at the companion console. This console features a windscreen and glove box to stow sunglasses or valuables.

The helm is a driver’s delight. It hosts another windscreen plus the company’s Control Steering System, a flush-mounted horn, navigation lights, auto bilge pump/switch and full instrumentation. There’s even an added adjustable mirror, providing an increased field of view.
Sea-Doo has never slacked when it comes to powering their sportboats and the 180 is no exception. She comes standard with a supercharged Rotax 185 hp 4-TEC four-stroke engine and if you need more boost, opt for the impressive intercooled Rotax 215 hp supercharged engine, which was engineered to deliver the perfect balance between sport performance and recreation.

Of course no Sea-Doo would be complete about user-friendly features for watersports. There’s a large swim platform with grab handles for easy entry in and out of the water plus a stainless steel tow-eye. A wake tower is optional.

The Sea-Doo 180 is the ideal jet boat for the family. It’s also economically priced with all the frills for thrills and there’ s more than a handful of useful amenities for fun times on the water.
