KINGSTON HEATS UP WITH THE
1000 ISLANDS POKER RUN
(19-4)
William E. TaylorAugust 13-15 promises to be one of the most exciting weekends of the summer. Having returned to its original location in Kingston, Ontario, the 1000 Islands Poker Run is guaranteed to be hotter than ever as the city will showcase some of the most powerful and exotic performance boats in the world. Talk about an event offering enjoyment and entertainment for the whole family!

Whether you own a luxurious Volvo-powered cruiser or a lightweight inflatable, this exhilarating spectacle will thrill every type of boater as Confederation Basin and the entire downtown waterfront come alive with excitement. Among the nautical powerhouses on display will be Bill Tomlinson's turbine-powered 46 Skater, My Way, Oliver Bock's recently-designed canopied 47 Outerlimits plus Wilma and Brian Ross' 38 Donzi, Talkin' Tools. As a special surprise, offshore legend Reggie Fountain will even be in attendance with an all-new top secret concept boat. Other weekend attractions will include non-stop action in downtown Kingston with clothing and accessory booths, plus endless entertainment in any one of the city's most popular downtown restaurants and street-side patios.

If you can't make it to Kingston, you can easily catch the excitement during any one of the card stops at Prescott, Rockport or Brockville. And speaking of Brockville, this scenic lakeside community will showcase several boat displays plus the town's very own Downtown Brockville Celebration and Sidewalk Sale. But, keep an eye on the shoreline as the power pack will be pulling in for lunch at the popular waterfront restaurant, Bud's On The Bay.

Just in time for this summer extravaganza, our summer issue delivers some of the most fascinating new launches of the year. Just when you thought Evinrude introduced it all for 04', they invited Power Boating Canada to their testing facility in Stuart, Florida to check out their three new V-6 E-TEC outboards, ranging from 200 to 250 horsepower. Geared for fishermen and recreational boaters alike, marine-industry veteran Michael Verdon delivers the low-down on this new arsenal. Check out page 32 for the full story. Power Boating Canada also just returned from Volvo Penta's Krossholmen Marine Test Center in Sweden to bring you the latest on the company's new diesel power. Labeled the D-9 500/575, expert tech writer Tim Banse takes a first-hand look at the technology and power behind these heavy weights.

In addition to an expansive gear section, insightful columns and tech articles, we offer coverage of six select boat tests, plus a showcase on several new walk-around models for recreational cottage boaters.

Power Boating Canada has been the gateway to this pastime for nearly two decades, bringing you the latest product and news to heighten the enjoyment of the boating lifestyle across the country. If you have any comments, questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me at bill@powerboating.com. See you on water!
