Sylvan 1700 Pro Fish DC by Steve Fennell

For the 2004 model year, Sylvan Marine introduces another model designed for Northern anglers, the 1700 Pro Fish DC. The cockpit is spacious, the gunnels are wide and the hull boasts tough-as-nails construction for rugged environments. What's interesting though, is this new entry has a lot more going for it than just that.

The 1700's strength starts with a one-piece 1/8-inch-thick gauge bottom that is double-riveted to the hull sides, featuring roll spray rails and lap strakes for added strength. Hand-fitted ribs are then incorporated on 10-inch centers offering tremendous lateral durability, while longitudinal stringers span the ribs to provide even more reinforcement. Up to five keels are riveted through the ribs and bottom to form a lightweight and tough integrated hull system .

Sylvan 1700 Pro Fish DCEnter the cockpit of the 1700 and you're greeted with a large aft section featuring a storage compartment, an 18-gallon lighted, aerated recirculating livewell with timer, and flip-up seats to port and starboard. Two standard pedestal seats can be moved to your choice of six bases found throughout the cockpit and bow.

It's no surprise Sylvan featured port and starboard rod compartments, but if you need more room for gear, there's a spacious in-floor locker as well as more storage space under the forward console, where you'll also find a glove box for keys, sunglasses or other valuables.

The helm is simply laid out with easy-to-read gauges, while the rocker switches are located on a panel to the right. Some little extras include tilt steering and a compass. This whole area is surrounded by a large, wrap-around, walk-through windshield that offers easy access to the bow.

While very few fishing models this size feature anything more than a casting platform and perhaps a trolling motor panel in the bow, Sylvan went a few steps further to include standard bow cushions, an 18-gallon aerated lighted livewell with timer, a bow rail and even more storage.

Rounding out the 1700 are four six-inch pull-up cleats, navigational lights, an eight-inch access plate and a treated floor with a lifetime warranty.

If you're looking for a little more space, Sylvan also offers two larger models, the 1900 and the 2100, each offering the same quality construction and thoughtful amenities as the 1700. If you haven't checked out this series, then perhaps visit the Sylvan display at the u-coming shows this winter. Chances are you'll be impressed with what it has to offer.
