Since the launch of Meridian Yachts last year in New York City, the builder has made great waves with its complete line of elegant yachts.

For 2004, the company continues to provide more luxury and comfort with its 408 Motoryacht, an aft cabin design reaching a length of 42 feet, 2 inches with a beam of 14 feet, four inches.

Easy boarding is provided by the large aft platform with a spiral staircase leading up to a spacious aft deck. Meridian left nothing to the imagination here. There are three large storage lockers integrated into the fiberglass dodger, a hard top with stainless grab handles, overhead lighting plus a wet bar for entertaining. An additional set of moulded steps lead to the bridge with a stainless steel rail.

This spacious area is warm and inviting. An L-lounge with storage offers ample seating while drink holders are found everywhere. If you need to refresh your drink, you'll appreciate the entertainment centre with sink, preparation surface as well as bottle and dry storage. Just forward is the helm boasting the comfort and convenience for all-day cruising. A large single helm chair faces a complete dash featuring an array of gauges that are neatly organized for easy viewing. Some little extras include a Rule compass, hour meter, rocker switch controls with DC breaker panel and a wood-grain accented steering wheel. A refrigerator and an AM/FM/CD stereo with a subwoofer, amplifier, a cockpit remote and four speakers are available.

Where this model really shines is in the salon, accessed by the two doors on the aft deck.

With too many features to mention, you'll be glad to know there's a two-tiered window system, a FlexSteel Mirage leather sofa, end tables with a 110-Volt outlets, ample storage and overhead lighting. The entertainment centre offers many components while the fully loaded galley has more storage, a stainless sink, a coffee maker and large refrigerator/freezer.

Comfortable sleeping accommodations can be found in the master stateroom located aft, while another stateroom is featured forward. There's also a master and guest head.

The new year also brings the all-new Meridian 459 Cockpit, an elegant yacht with some striking features for luxurious cruising. Look out for this newcomer at the shows this year.
