From
sport cruisers and luxurious motoryachts to cuddy cabins
and bowriders, Power Boating Canada presents a comprehensive
overview of the exciting new offerings for the 2004
model year. Manufacturers have broken all barriers in
design techniques to offer more space, comfort and performance
for your boating enjoyment. Climb aboard as we take
an insider's peek at the innovative new lineup ready
to hit the water next spring!
Bayliner
had the whole family in mind when they designed its
2004 225 runabout. A large L-shaped lounge stretches
from port to halfway up the starboard side and ends
with a convenient backrest facing aft. Immediately forward
is a roomy passenger's seat and to starboard, an adjustable,
swivel driver's chair. With the added space in the bow,
the 225 can seat up to 10. Other creature comforts include
a bow pedestal table with a dedicated storage and when
you add the filer cushions, the seating arrangement
converts into a sunlounger. Its standard 5.0L MerCruiser
Alpha One means you have the power for exiting water
activities and the 50-gallon fuel tank allows you to
enjoy the whole day without stopping for fuel. You'll
also enjoy the transom shower on the aft platform, recessed
swim ladder and dedicated cooler storage. (Picture:

Baja Marine's new
30 Outlaw features twin MerCruiser 6.2L MPIs, a deep-V
hull with a 24-degree deadrise and sizzling four-colour
in-gel graphics so you'll look good while slicing through
the chop at high speeds. Ultimate comfort is provided
by two custom cuddy seats with drop-down bolsters, plus
a bench seat aft. Standards such as the large sun pad
and standard six-speaker AM/FM Clarion CD stereo system
will provide relaxing moments even when anchored or
in the slip. Another new contender is the 202 Islander
designed for families looking for a little more performance
at a reasonable value. Equipped with a flat transom,
a 21-degree deep-V hull and a standard 5.0L 260 hp MerCruiser
MPI, company reports claim the 202 can reach speeds
of up to 60 mph. (Picture: Baja 30 Outlaw)
Campion celebrates
its 30th year with the all-new Allante LX 825, a 25-foot,
six-inch luxury sunbridge cruiser. This newcomer is
based on its successful 805, utilizing the company's
Unigraphics computer 3-D modeling system, but features
a wider beam of 9'4" for added stability. During
production, some "musts" to include were a
windshield walk-through, large deck hatch, doublewide
helm seat and fibreglass cabin liner. Future plans include
the launch of a 25-foot fishing machine, available in
I/O and O/B versions, along with a 24-foot bowrider.

Chris Craft greets
the new year with its new 33 Express Cruiser, based
on its popular 328 EC. With a remodeled helm and new
teak additions, the 33 boasts a fresh new look that
reflects the classic elegance and style of the current
Chris Craft series of Launches, Corsiars and Roamers.
Its exterior upholstery has been upgraded to a 35-ounce
abrasion-resistance vinyl with stain inhibitors while
a stainless steel transom gate, Chris Craft logo and
Bomar hatch add a touch of style. You'll also notice
a few new options including the stainless steel windshield,
transom stereo remote, dark blue coloured accent vinyl
and two colour options for the hull; sport black with
a white stripe and a yacht club black with a red stripe.

For 2004, Cruisers Yachts
introduces its new 455 Express Motoryacht, boasting
the evolutionary crossover design that was introduced
with the 4450 Express Motoryacht in 1999. The 455 features
sleek styling with a cockpit layout of an express but
with the live-aboard comfort and luxury of an aft cabin
motoryacht. Exterior highlights include a full express-style
windshield plus a bimini top enclosure attached to an
aft hardtop with wing doors and full weather enclosure.
Below decks is a true aft cabin interior featuring a
large convertible dinette, comfortable L-shaped sofa
with double incliners and a fully appointed galley with
an extra-large refrigerator/freezer. There's also a
forward stateroom, a luxurious master suite aft and
a third stateroom amidships. Cruisers also launches
its 320 Express, featuring a triple-wide helm seat,
fore- and aft-facing cockpit seating, twin convertible
table/sun lounge, cockpit shower and an available icemaker.

Doral, one of Canada's
most prominent boat builders, unveils its new flagship,
the Alegria, for the 2004 season. With an LOA of 47
feet, four inches, plus a combination of plush appointments,
performance and unique technology, this newcomer quite
clearly reflects the company's motto, "The Art
of Luxury." During its recent dealer meeting in
Hull, Quebec, the Alegria made a lasting impression
with its expansive cockpit featuring two lounge areas,
a wet bar with an icemaker, fridge and an electric barbecue.
What's more is the cockpit is on one level with no steps
except for a recessed ladder leading up to the forward
deck. An innovative design here is the center windshield
electronically lowers underneath the foredeck, offering
convenient and easy access. Down below, stylish concepts
continue with Honduras mahogany appointments with a
cherry wood dinette table and companionway steps. This
whole area is 26 feet providing ample room for a side
lounge/dinette, plasma TV plus a flat-screen TV located
forward and aft. The cabin rounds out with two heads
plus a spacious forward stateroom and mid-cabin. The
new year will see two other brand new models, the 190
BR and the redesigned Phazar, a popular model in Doral's
line in the late 80s and early 90s. What's also interesting
for 2004 is the company renamed its entire cruiser line.
There's the Monticello (250 SE), Prestancia (280 SE),
Intrigue (310 SE), Eleganate (330 SE) and the Boca Grande
(360 SE). Similarly, Doral's bowrider series is now
labeled under the Sunquest banner while its cuddy line
is called the Escape series. (Picture: Doral Alegria)
Florida-based EdgeWater Boats
bridges the gap between its popular 225 and 265 center
consoles with the all-new 245 CC. It can be outfitted
with single or twin power configurations and utilizes
all-composite PermaGrid II hull stringer system for
exceptional hull strength and closed-cell foam flotation.
With 89 square feet of useable cockpit space, some features
include U-shaped bow seating with a cooler and storage
space, a tackle box with three removable trays, port/starboard
gunwale rod storage, large bow casting deck/sun deck
plus an aft integrated engine platform/swim platform.
The 245 can also be easy trailerable to explore different
lakes. Another new model is the 205 CC that is considered
the "big/little boat." (Page

Formula/Thunderbird Products'
Performance Cruiser line has been enhanced this year
with the all-new 34 PC. Reflecting the classic styling
of Formula's exclusive designer John Adams, the 34 comes
in at 35 feet, seven inches with a beam of 11 feet,
six inches, to offer an expansive cockpit featuring
a wet bar and a U-shaped lounge that converts to a large
sun pad with the added filler cushions. Luxury continues
down below with a spacious cabin offering a full six
feet, eight inches of headroom and a full galley. A
convertible berth in the salon, an aft cabin and a forward
centerline bed offers plenty of room to sleep up to
six. Another contender for 2004 is the 47 Yacht, an
upscale luxury cruiser that has an LOA of 50 feet and
a beam of 14 feet. With too many features to list, some
impressive highlights include a hydraulic swim platform
that can accommodate a PWC or tender, versatile surround
cockpit lounge seating and an L-shaped wet bar. In the
cabin, there's a spacious master suite with separate
head and a guest cabin/den. (Picture: Formula 34 PC)
There are also changes to the Formula Imron Graphic
Designs for a broader choice of exciting colors and
graphics. In the FAS3Tech line boater's can choose the
redesigned Silver #1, Gold #1 or #2 graphics or a new
colour selection called Midnight Beach. There's also
a new platinum selection called Light Speed and even
new colour selections for the Yacht, PC and SS lineups:
Sapphire Blue Metallic, Black Onyx Metallic and Silver
Diamond Pearl. Other flagship colour selections include
bright red in the SS lineup and a standard colour selection
of Black Onyx in the Yacht, PC and SS lineup.

With the introduction of the 288 Vista, Four

many new features found on the 288 is a main cabin design.
There's a forward dinette that simply converts to a
vee-berth plus a second seating area opposite the galley.
This area provides a table and even more seating when
the forward berth is in use. Overhead is a rich woodgrain
cabinet and an added bonus is its six feet, four inches
of headroom. The cockpit has a new refreshment center
with a two-tiered Corian surface, slide-out cooler,
sink, built-in beverage holders and even a pull-out
trash receptacle. Also new is the 250 Horizon, a distinctive

bay and backwater vessel boasting a draft of only 10
inches. This means you can easily get to the really
shallow water for that prize catch. In addition to supporting
a gel-coated fibreglass one-piece stringer system that
is fused to the hull and deck for superior strength
and performance, the 2000 boasts all-composite wood-free
construction with an integral composite transom that
is ceramic poured. Its self-bailing cockpit has a 26-gallon
lighted transom baitwell with a 1,100 gallon-per-hour
