2003 A BENCHMARK YEAR FOR POWER BOATING
If
you're in the market for power, luxury and/or comfort on the water,
this is the year to fulfill your dreams. Power boating, I'm happy
to report, is very much alive. Matter of fact, it's thriving. Naturally,
I am prejudiced. I've owned powerboats for many, many years. I also
publish a couple of magazines dedicated to a recreational pastime
that I strongly believe can be enjoyed by one person and an entire
family. Power boating is fun, healthy and a great way to meet people
and make new friends.
But that's
just one reason for the popularity of the sport - a very important
reason, mind you. In today's troubled times, power boating is a
positive way to balance life, to temporarily deal with global turmoil.
Boat builders
are also aware of the rapidly changing times. And, for 2003, they've
stepped up to the plate in a big way by producing a wide variety
of quality products that are very affordably priced, with comfort
and convenience features specifically designed to benefit the specific
needs and tastes of the end user.
Having said
that, we launch into the new year with an exciting issue we know
you will enjoy.
Starting on
page 14, I would like to once again welcome long-time PBC contributor
Harold Shield to the pages of Power Boating Canada. Harold will
be taking over the popular Waterfront Watch from former columnist,
Jack Perdue. In this issue, he reports on the upcoming emissions
standards and the effect it will have on pleasure boating. On page
54, be sure to read our feature story on US Marine and how they
are reinventing themselves with a series of impressive new models
for budget-minded boaters. The builder also introduced an all-new
series of cruisers called Meridian Yachts. Check out the test of
the 411 Sedan on page 48. If you're a pleasure boater with a need
for extended cruising, this is one model you'll want to take for
a sea trial!
The 2003 season
is upon us and there's no better way to prepare for the new year
than with Power Boating Canada. Thanks to the continued efforts
of a large collective of responsible organizations, concerned media,
the marine industry and - most importantly - power boaters, our
waterways, lakes, rivers and oceans will always represent a clean,
honest, safe and fun-filled environment.
Speaking of
fun, be sure to visit one or more of the many boat shows in your
area. And don't forget to stop by to say hello. (Top)
