SEA-DOO GTX 4-TEC SUPERCHARDED by Steve Fennell

It's always amazing to see what Sea-Doo will think of next. After the launch of the award-winning GTX 4-TEC in 2002, the company has once again broken the barriers in PWC performance by adding even more power to its hefty line of personal watercraft.

SEA-DOO GTX 4-TEC Super-ChargedThe all-new GTX 4-TEC boasts a Supercharged 1494cc four-stroke, three-cylinder Rotax SOHC with multi-port fuel injection to deliver an astounding 185 hp. Power derives from an exclusive industry-first supercharger, a nautilus-shaped fan blower found on the rear of the engine that is gear-driven to boost increased amounts of air into the fuel-air mixture which is then injected into the combustion chambers.

By optimizing power at all rpm levels and increasing torque at low rpm and throttle positions, riders are offered immediate throttle response, quick acceleration and plenty of power from the get-go.

But for children, or first-time riders, the 4-TEC has the Sea-Doo safety-oriented Learning Key system. This is a substitute lanyard system that can be programmed to govern speeds down to approximately 35 mph.

Another feature on the 4-TEC is the exclusive D-Sea-Bel sound reduction system. The system includes a combination of resonators, acoustical foam and vibration absorbing components which work in unison to reduce noise. The exhaust system on all 4-TEC models utilizes a double muffler cross-over to further quiet sound output.

Like the engine, this muffler system is mounted on rubber blocks and encased in a rubber jacket to deaden vibrations. The 4-TEC's O.P.A.S. system allows riders to maneuver the unit when the ignition is off and the throttle is not in gear - a handy feature when coming in from long rides or loading the PWC on a trailer. Side vanes are automatically deployed to provide additional assistance. The O.P.A.S. also decelerates as the driver turns to maintain control.

The 4-TEC rides on the modified-V design to ensure a smooth and comfortable ride in a variety of water conditions. The hull is reinforced with fibreglass that is said to be strong, light and easy to maintain while sponsons add improved handling.

There are bow and stern eyes if you need to tow and handy temporary docking loops provide quick and easy tie-ups. A reboarding platform allows easy access after spills in deep water and you'll find a grab rail and seat strap for for added convenience.

Don't worry about losing glasses or keys with this unit. Ample space is offered in its extra-large storage compartment or glove box. Other added features on this three-seater include a ski-eye with plenty of room for a spotter.

Vital engine data is displayed on the impressive Multifunction LCD Information Centre. This system displays such information as fuel level, trip metre, hour metre and maintenance information.

Sea-Doo didn't miss a beat when designing this watercraft. The GTX 4-TEC Supercharged takes PWC design and performance to a whole new level. It has all the features for safe riding and more than a few appointments for convenience. But above all, the engine is quiet, clean and offers the power to deliver excitement.
