HOT SUMMER FUN
You can
almost feel the temperatures rising as Canadian power boaters get
ready for another fun-filled season. With record-breaking sales
at the Toronto International Boat Show, and similar results at shows
across the country this winter, there's no doubt we're headed for
a sizzling summer of boating excitement.
And
to add some fuel to the fire, Power Boating Canada traveled south
of the border to the Miami International Boat Show to bring back
the news of the hottest products to date. This major consumer event,
like many of its Canadian counterparts, always draws the crowds.
But the big difference in Miami is our team of experts can get out
on the water and test some of the latest entries of the new year.
Such as Chris Craft's 28 Launch-Heritage, Wellcraft's 47 Excalibur
and Formula's 37 PC. Look for these tests in upcoming issues.
Volvo
Penta, another prominent exhibitor, dazzled the marine industry
with their Ocean Series XDP Composite Drive. In fact, this new item
recently won the prestigious NMMA Innovation Award during the show.
And, if you haven't already heard, Genmar Industries and retail
giant, Wal-Mart, have recently signed a special agreement to launch
Boat Sale USA and Boat Show Canada. Starting in May, Genmar products
will be promoted through Wal-Mart stores in Canada, the United States
and on its website.
This
past winter Power Boating Canada was on the scene at the official
grand opening of Bombardier Recreational Product's Johnson and Evinrude
outboard engine manufacturing plant. We were given a first-hand
tour of the 500,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility and as
the company enters into their first season, the engine builder is
making big waves in outboard marine technology.
Speaking
of power, don't miss our exclusive Ride the Power feature starting
on page 67 in this issue. PBC writer Bill Jennings tests the latest
outboards from Mercury, Bombardier, Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki. Also
shining bright is Rinker Boats with its all-new 262 Captiva sport
boat. Carver takes the stage with its Voyager edition, the 530 Sky
Lounge and sharing the spotlight is Regal's red-hot 3860 Commodore.
If you think you traveled south, check out Lynn Ove Mortenson's
destination through the Turks and Caicos to the southern tip of
Puerto Rico. But if you choose to cruise closer to home, pick up
some destination tips from our feature on a boating journey from
Georgian Bay to Killarney, ON. Combined with our regular columnists
and hot boat gear section, Power Boating Canada continues to rank
number one - continually serving up the latest facts, innovative
product and on-water adventures that reflect the excitement of the
power boating lifestyle. (Top)
