Calculations for Running Quality by
Steve Horsfall
I enjoy your column
in Power Boating Canada and decided to take you up on your offer
to answer a question. I have searched many boat articles and have
not found a definition of deadrise.

SPECS REQUESTED
I am the service manager for Giannone Marine in Pompano Beach,
FL. We have a customer with a 1991 Cadorette 280 Holiday, originally
equip-ped with twin MerCruiser 4.3L Alpha I stern drives. The owner
is re-powering the 280 with a MerCruiser 350: Magnum MPI with Bravo
III drives. I am in need of any and all specs for the boat, LOA,
weight, beam and draft. Is there is any data for equipping this
boat with Bravo III dual prop drives.

THE NEED FOR SPEED
I own a l999 Donzi 22' ZX with a 454 Mag 385 hp MPI and I'm running
in the low to mid-70's at wide open throttle. When I purchased the
boat, the salesman told me if I ever wanted to get more speed I
should try a ProCharger or any brand of superchargers to boost power.
After looking at some ProCharger models, their
literature indicated there were no tests shown on 22-foot boats
with big blocks. I know Donzi discontinued putting the higher horsepower
454's in the 22-foot boats in 2000. I was told it was too much power
for a boat of that size if you didn't know how to drive it. My concern
is that by adding the ProCharger it would be too much power for
the hull size or design. All the boats in the ProCharger literature
started around 24 feet. I have spoken to the people at ProCharger
and Cool-Charger and they both said it will work.
I know we all have a little Carrol Shelby in
us and will try anything. I would like your opinion on this before
I spend the time and money.
