NEW WAVE OF BOATING
As winter's chill sweeps across the
nation, the staff at Power Boating Canada is casting off for what
we feel will be a very eventful year.
It's great
to report that a new wave of excitement has hit the Canadian boating
scene with several changes throughout the industry this past season.
The Fort Lauderdale
show this year buzzed with excitement with the unveiling of many
new models and products from marine manufacturers throughout North
America. While at the show, I had the opportunity to speak with
Mercury Marine's Fred Kiekhaefer who indicated several new developments
lay just around the corner and will be introduced at the Miami Boat
Show this February.
The hot news
of Bombardier's Fish Hawk line and the redesigned Johnson and Evinrude
outboards is yet another indication of a dynamic year to come, along
with Genmar which has made positive headlines this year with additions
to its model lineup and unique modifications to its hull technology.
Watch for new developments from this industry giant in the coming
year.
This past
month Power Boating Canada also took an exclusive trip down to Lake
Havasu, NV, to report on Seaswirl's debut unveiling of its 1851DC
Airboard, an exciting new addition for the wakeboard market. Look
for a story in an upcoming issue. (Top)
As manufacturers
continue to develop and allocate more resources to research and
development, the quality of product can only improve and put a positive
spin on the boating lifestyle. Judging by the boats we have seen
and tested, the 2002 model year is supercharged with technology
designed to enhance the lifestyle even further.
To lead you
through the vast array of these new models, the staff at Power Boating
Canada has put together an action-packed Annual Test Issue, a comprehensive
guide of the hottest boats to date. This year we've included a wider
selection of models that we know will grab your attention.
Throughout
the past several months, our team of experts has traveled throughout
North America test driving boats and picking the minds of boat designers
to report on current cutting-edge technology and the newest trends.
Boat and engine
builders have placed a large emphasis on family boating and versatility.
From small runabouts to larger sport cruisers, 2002 models offer
top value for your dollar with more features, comfortable amenities
and power-packed performance. The demands of recreational boaters
have been heard and builders and designers have outdone themselves
with products such as deck boats targeting family boaters. The future
of power boating has arrived.
