Steve Horsfall All Trimmed Out

by Steve Horsfall
I have a 1988 454 twin MerCruiser engine equipped with TRS outdrives. One outdrive will not plane in. It is stuck in the out (up) position from when I winterized the boat last fall. The fluid is clean and full, I have bypassed the electrical harness and I am direct wiring the solenoid to rule out any electrical problems. When I attempt to trim-in, the trim motor engages for a split-second then it sounds as if the fluid is bypassing the trim pistons.

As the boat usually rests on a cradle over the water, can I drain off the fluid to lower the unit and remove the pistons and rebuild them? Do I need to set the trim motor since I left it in the up position? Also, how do I properly bleed the system?

Stick to It
I own a 1978 15-foot Tempest boat. I have completely refurbished it with the exception of new decals for the sides of the hull. I have searched everywhere for these decals without any luck. Can you please steer me in the right direction so I can find these decals for my boat?

Can you please tell me if Thompson Boats are still being made? They were a quality-built boat in the mid-eighties.

Restoration Dilemma
I have just picked up a 1959 Leavens Bros. Sportster with an original 35 hp Evinrude Lark. ItŐs a nice boat and I would love to restore it. The problem is, I canŐt seem to find any information on it. All I know is that it was built in Toronto. Do you have any ideas?
