Are You Aware of Bill S-26?
What a summer it’s been! With the many
exciting events and activities taking place across our sun-filled
waterways, recreational boating is stronger than ever. All amenities
and services along the waterways are out in full force so take advantage
of the many destinations and experiences this summer.
After all,
boating is not only a gateway to cruising or anchoring at your favourite
destination, it’s a lifestyle where we can enjoy new experiences
with family and friends.
And here at
Power Boating Canada, we live the boating lifestyle 100 per
cent! Issue after issue, we strive to provide you the latest in
innovations and technology to enhance your boating experiences.
Are you
aware of Bill S-26? The recently introduced private member’s
bill designed to regulate the use of personal watercraft, poses
a serious threat to our freedom on the waterways. “An Act Concerning
Personal Watercraft in Navigable Waters” proposes specific regulation
of PWC by municipalities, provincial parks and even by cottage associations.
This could open the door to increased regulation of other boating
activities. Although there are many mixed emotions regarding the
use of PWC, Canadian boaters should decide how and where to spend
their time on the water. As long as we practice proper safety measures
and are courteous to other boaters, then members of Parliament have
no right to restrict our recreational liberties. Speak to your local
MP or participate in local petitions that may be circulating in
your community and voice a concern for your freedom of boating on
our waterways. (See page 74 for more information and a chance to
air your concerns)
In the meantime,
we have an action-packed issue straight from the front lines of
the boating industry!
Check out our
tests on Cruisers Yacht’s 3470 Express and Formula’s latest, the
37 PC Cruiser. PBC’s Harold Shield brings a special report on the
return of Miss Scarlett, one of the sweetest vessels to grace the
waterways.
Plus, cruise
in the right direction as we offer the fundamentals of GPS navigation
and provide insightful information on what type of equipment is
required for your boating style.
Our mandate
is to make Power Boating Canada your personal guide to carry
you through the boating season. Remember, as you continue to enjoy
your favourite pastime, to practice safety to enhance your on-the
water-experiences.
See you at
the events! (Top)
