William E. Taylor BOATING THRILLS CHASE AWAY WINTER'S CHILL
The first wave of new boats unveiled to the public at the many winter shows consistently amazes me. Manufacturers continue to stretch the boundaries of technology, aesthetics and craftsmanship to bring satisfaction to power boating enthusiasts. And for 2001, they’ve pulled all stops to deliver the best boating line-up ever.

Despite the cold blasts of winter, the heated passion of power boaters will definitely rise to a boil as show-goers across Canada get their first glimpses of what they’ll see on the docks next summer.

Take a look inside and see what our testers and writers have compiled to warm you up and help tide you over until spring thaw. You won’t want to miss Dusty Miller’s review of Sea Ray’s all-new 540 Cockpit Motor Yacht – it’ll chase those chills away. And so will the tests on Doral’s 330 SE, Maxum’s 4100 and the Cruisers’ 4270. In his test on the Lowe Tahiti 220 deck boat, Doug Dawson complains about the Texas heat – we sure could use some now as the deep freeze of winter grips us. (Top)

Roughing It In The BVI’s is a destination piece guaranteed to keep those boating desires stoked. In it you’ll discover the secrets of successful chartering and find out why bareboating is not just for the rich and famous.

On a more serious note I want to talk a bit about boating safety. The power boating lifestyle is one of the last freedoms afforded us and with that freedom comes a great deal of responsibility. At Power Boating Canada we constantly promote safe boating and urge you to take a safe boating course this winter (or a refresher course to keep you current). Not only will it provide excellent information, but it will help keep your boating interests alive during the season where we only get to “think about boating.”

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the many readers who have taken the time to contact us with their comments and suggestions for future issues of Power Boating Canada magazine. While it is sometimes difficult to respond to each individual, we do appreciate you comments. They form a very important part of our editorial planning.

The staff of Power Boating Canada will be on the road in the months ahead, touring the boat show circuit from coast to coast. If you are in the area make sure to stop by and say hello. In the meantime, keep a copy of Power Boating Canada close by to help get you through the cold winter months ahead! (Top)
