William E. TaylorIT'S SHOW TIME FOR POWER BOATERS
It's show time! Now's the time when boat, motor, electronics and accessory manufacturers reveal the newest, most innovative products for the New Year. This means it's time for boating enthusiasts to discover the best and brightest of the new boating season in the showrooms and at the winter shows.

To guide you through the extensive array of new models, the staff of Power Boating Canada has prepared this special test issue, designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the latest stars on the boating horizon. Our test team has criss-crossed North America to provide background information on the new wave of innovative vessels, ranging from fishing boats to luxury cruisers. We've timed this issue to provide information prior to the winter boat shows. As the season progresses and manufacturers reveal their new models, we will continue to preview the latest and greatest boats on the water.

Recently we had the privilege of taking a sneak peek at Volvo Penta's all-new XDP-Composite Drive at a special invitation-only media event. We had heard the rumours milling about at the various shows last summer and were bursting with curiosity to see this technological innovation. Details about the corrosion-resistant, hydrodynamic unit are still sketchy at this point, other than that plans are being made for a full launch later this year. But, we can tell you this truly is a new chapter in marine powerplants. Count on Power Boating Canada to bring you updated in-depth reports as more news becomes available. (Top)

This fall, I was honoured to receive the Gord Blake Visionary award from the Ontario Marine Operators Association. With deep-felt thanks I accept this award on behalf of the entire power boating community. The award is given for helping further the vision that I believe we all share -- that power boating is much more than a hobby or a pastime; it's a lifestyle. A lifestyle that continues to astonish us with brilliant innovations and progress. I am proud to have played a part in helping build our community and at this time I would like to extend a special thank you to the readers and marine industry who have supported us.

The first snows of winter always bring a flurry of excitement here at Power Boating Canada, as we prepare to tour the country to meet our readers at the major boat shows from coast to coast. Mark your calendar today and be sure to attend the boat shows in your area. We'll be in full force at many shows across the country, kicking off at the Toronto and Vancouver International Boat Shows. If you plan to be in the area make sure to drop by and say hello. (Top)
