William E. TaylorBOATING IS A YEAR-ROUND LIFESTYLE
As all Canadian boaters know, there really are only two seasons. The one where we can go boating, and the one where we get ready to go boating.

Well, the “go boating” season is winding down as we haul out our craft and bid farewell until spring launch. It’s now time for the “get ready for boating” season. Just because our boats are away, doesn’t mean we stop thinking about boating. Not a chance! After all, this is one of the last few freedoms offered to us. From open water and clear sky cruising to boarding the perfect wake; with friends, family or some personal time by our self, boating is more than a pastime, it’s a lifestyle. And at Power Boating Canada magazine we take this lifestyle seriously. We are committed to bringing you the latest news, information, boat tests and lifestyle features to maintain enthusiasm for both our boating seasons.

Inside this issue you’ll find our Spotlight on 2001, a sneak preview of the hottest new offerings to the hit the water. Browse through the pages to see what lies ahead of the curve. Make a mental note of the features and boats you like so you’ll be ready to search them out when you hit the shows early next year. Already the Toronto and Vancouver International Boat Shows are shaping up to be among the best ever. Mark your calendars now so you can plan accordingly.

Also in this issue, you won’t want to miss The Shaping of Things to Come, our insider’s look at a brand-new way of building boats where high tech meets the high seas. Power Boating Canada magazine recently headed to Genmar’s production facility in Little Falls, Minnesota to witness first hand one of the most fascinating technological revolutions ever to affect our lifestyle. Virtual Engineered Composite or VEC technology may very well revolutionize the way fiberglass boats are produced with its computer controlled closed-mold operation that makes fiberglass hulls and decks of defined thickness and strength.

One of the best parts of my job as Publisher of Power Boating Canada is getting our team together and heading down south to the shows. It’s a labor of love as we walk down each dock looking for new and exciting information to put in the magazine. Our first stop this fall will be the Fort Lauderdale show, and you can count on us to bring back all the news in our next issue.

As the cold weather starts to settle in across the country, keep your copies of Power Boating Canada close by. By bringing the boating lifestyle to your living room, we’ll make sure you enjoy both your boating seasons.

See you at the shows and, as always, stop by to say hi. (Top)
