DMC LAUNCHES LATEST HIGH-TECH, HIGH PERFORMANCE TWO-STROKES
The world-class facilities of Indian River Plantation in Stuart,
Florida, set the stage for a sneak peek at Outboard Marine Corporation's
newest technology. The exclusive media event, which attracted marine
journalists from all corners of the continent and OMC's top brass,
introduced the company's new Evinrude Ficht V-6 engines with Ram
Injection direct fuel injection, including the powerful 250 hp saltwater
and 225 high-output "RUDE" Ram engines.
Emphasizing a dramatic decrease in fuel consumption,
the new Evinrude DFI (direct fuel injection) two-stroke outboards
are also among the cleanest engines on the market, reducing hydrocarbon
emissions by up to 88 percent and cutting oil usage in half. The
majority of these outboards also meet US EPA air emission standards
for 2006 and California Air Resources Board requirements for 2004.
They have also been chosen by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency
to power a patrol boat on the pristine waters of Lake Tahoe.
Credentials aside, the question first and foremost
on this writer's mind reflected the concerns of most boaters. Not
to worry. Performance hasn't been sacrificed. OMC's Evinrude DFI
outboard lineup, now available from 75 to 250 horsepower, touts
a highly advanced fuel delivery system that delivers the goods.

a late-year introduction of a new 3.0-litre Johnson.

PROMOTING SAFETY IN BOATING
With summer at its peak, keep an eye out for the Labatt WaterWise
Boat Pro Safety Team which is currently visiting boaters on the
water providing demonstrations and explaining techniques on proper
boating safety.
The team is part of a province-wide annual campaign
that promotes boating safety and the consequences of drinking and
boating throughout Ontario's many beaches, docks and marinas.
"Many people still don't recognize the dire consequences
of drinking and boating," said the Honourable David Tsubouchi, Solicitor
General of Ontario.
Boaters are also invited to participate in a special
contest that tests each participant's boating safety knowledge for
a chance to win a variety of prizes.
"With almost half of the Ontario population enjoying
summer boating each year, we are fully committed to delivering safety
messages through the Labatt WaterWise Boat Pro Safety Team," said
Jeff Newton, director of public affairs for Labatt Breweries Ontario.
"Each summer, the safe boating message strikes a chord with more
and more boaters and we see 2000 as being our most successful season
yet."
In its fifth year, the Labatt WaterWise Boat Pro
Safety Team was named Best Boating and Safety Campaign at this year's
annual Canadian Safe Boating Awards.
