This Express Cruiser thinks – and performs – like it’s a Yacht
Sleek, showy maneuverability plus top-of-the-line style and comfort, the Larson Cabrio 370 Day Cruiser grabs immediate attention. In the express yacht genre, many builders vie for the goodies, but Larson’s latest model delivers. Stylish inner beauty and comfort, combined with revolutionary Volvo Penta IPS performance, says this one will make memorable moments.
Based on Larson’s 370 Mid-Cabin Cruiser, its Day Cruiser model goes one better on just about everything. Exterior styling is to be envied, with fine balance of fore-deck versus overhead area, so it actually appears to be zooming ahead, even at rest. Yet there’s great open space under the slender roof, as working and socializing areas blend easily.
The cockpit’s helm position – a double-wide seat – makes taking command of the thirty-six foot-plus hull a simple procedure. I like that the electronics are grouped for immediate reference. They include an 8.4” color display, GPS, radar, VHF transceiver, and on our test boat the optional auto-pilot. Standing or sitting there is excellent visibility all around. Two separate sections of the cockpit couches blend, allowing the Captain and guests to intermingle easily. There’s a molded wet-bar, a covered sink and icemaker. Whether for fast running out and over to your favourite hidden bay, water-skiing, tube-towing, or simply mingling, the group is complete. But Cabrio 370’s Day Cruiser also has major surprises.
Inside, below deck, it’s another world, befitting a small but wonderfully splendid yacht design. Like a living room, the cabin decor is so well thought out, you’ll spend time just enjoying it. A 43-inch circular dinette/couch is surrounded by warm woods and natural light. With seating for eight, the carved wood table is inlaid with a compass rose. The ceiling immediately overhead also echoes this design. The dinette seating is so soft and suede-like that it subliminally invites you to sit and relax.
The dinette table lifts and lowers electrically for either dinner or coffee-table height; or, down to seat-height as base for a berth, with filler cushions. The decking is Flexteak holly and cherrywood: very yachty and easy to clean.
To port, the compact galley/wet-bar sports a black granite countertop, with a built-in two-burner range and large stainless steel sink. And for the onboard chef’s sportiest productions there’s a micro-wave, refrigerator/freezer, coffee maker, plus a wine chiller that holds a dozen bottles! Entertainment-wise a 32” flat screen TV w/CD-DVD is mounted in the forepeak.
The full-size VacuFlush head compartment features a stand-up shower and sink. The Cabrio 370 is fully air conditioning equipped, with a 7,000 BTU unit forward and a 12,000 BTU unit with reverse cycle heat aft. A 7.3 kW Kohler Genset, 10.5 gallon water heater/exchanger, and 50-amp battery converter are all standard.
Back up on deck, molded steps to the foredeck invite you to twin chaise lounges with striped cushions. And aft, the extended transom provides easy boarding/swimming with a hot/cold rinsing shower.
Most exciting, however, is what I’ve saved for last. That’s the revolutionary Volvo IPS engine system, no doubt one of the most thrilling developments in power boat history. With a simple joystick, you’ll make this boat – that thinks and performs like it’s a yacht - twirl like a ballerina, in her own length, or make docking the simplest maneuver of the day. You simply must try it to believe how great the Volvo IPS system is. It will make your new Larson Cabrio 370 Day Cruiser the most exciting boat of your life.
